Extremely rare and one of only a very small number that exist. This one of the earliest types of coinage made at the newly established Bristol mint, using dies Thomas Bushell had bought with himself from the Oxford Mint after he was sent by the King to establish a mint there. The only alteration of the original dies are the addition of three large Bristol Plumes above the declarartion on the reverse. From the research of one of our esteemed clients we are now aware of 9 further examples including examples in the British, Ashmolean and Hunterian Museums collections.
